A reception for the Boys returning from the war

The men who had served from London Street Primitive Methodist Church were honoured.

Resolved…

That as regards the unveiling ceremony,

(a) It be held on Wednesday 1st October at 7.30 pm
(b) That Rev E J T Bagnall preside.
(c) That Mr Waite be asked to receive memorial on behalf of Trustees.
(d) That Mr Smith be asked to present his roll of honour to the church.
(e) That Mr Smith speak first & Mr Alderson to follow.
(f) That Mr Drew be asked to arrange for suitable music.

That reception be held for the Boys returning from the war on following night, viz Oct 2/19.

That committee consisting of Mr Cheyney, Mr Pierce, & Ferguson arrange for the supper.

That Mr Cheyney, I Godden, A Chilton, arrange concert etc.

That reception be limited to Boys & one friend each. Trustees & Leaders to act as Waiters.

The influenza epidemic

I received notice today from the medical officer that the school is to remain closed till Nov. 18th owing to the influenza epidemic.

Chilton
Nov 6th

School closed today until the 25th for Influenza.

The harvest was over.

October 4th 1918

The children were taken to gather blackberries. This will be the last time this season – 2 tons 9 cwt 1lb of fruit have been sent away.

Two half days were granted this week for picking berries and the girls got quite a nice supply.

Oct 4th

The children are going out to pick blackberrying [sic] for the last time. Registers not marked in the afternoon.

4th October 1918

The school managers having given permission, the Education Committee has transferred me to the Three Mile Cross Council School for the duration of the war and Mrs Darlington has been appointed to take charge of this school during my absence.

October 4th

A holiday given all day for the children to gather blackberries.
