No soldiers coming to Newbury after all

Hospitable Newbury people were disappointed to no longer be able to entertain the troops.

The Committee of the Soldiers’ Club decided on Nov. 5th, though with much regret, to give up their tenancy of the former “King’s Arms”. There seemed to be no soldiers coming to Newbury after all, and they did not feel justified under the circumstances in continuing the rent, though Mr Tufnell had been very kindly taking only a small sum for the premises.
