Darkness in the chapel

The Community of St John Baptist and House of Mercy in Clewer were so nervous of air raids they dared not use their chapel in the evenings.

20 October 1915
Feast of the Dedication. Services as usual. Owing to possible Zeppelin raids the large Chapel was at this time kept in comparative darkness from 6.30 p.m., the late offices being said in the old chapel, & the Penitents having prayers in their classrooms.
