Road works for military purposes

The report of the Highways & Bridges Committee to Berkshire County Council’s November meeting included an attempt by central government to grab county council resources for the war effort.

Loan of plant
The Road Board have enquired whether the Council could spare any plant and men for road works for military and naval purposes which the Board have in hand. The Committee have replied that the work on the County roads will keep the rollers etc fully employed for the present.
